A plaque, which contains this triplet Dante, was laid by the Popular University of Bagnacavallo, on the facade of the Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Libertà, on the occasion of the sixth centenary of Dante's death. The supreme poet "praises" Bagnacavallo for the extinction of his most important family, Counts Malvicini,  that in 1300 had only three women among his descendants. According to Dante, in fact, it would have been better to die out that help to leave alive a morally decayed aristocracy such as Castrocaro or Conio

 

Art city in the heart of Romagna, a few kilometers from the Adriatic sea and the early Romagnolo Apennines, Bagnacavallo enjoys a strategic position from which you can easily reach the Delta Po Park and major cities such as Ravenna, Faenza, Bologna , Ferrara. The village retains the old historical center built on a medieval layout, unique in the Romagna area, with unique curved structure, long arcaded streets and a large number of noble palaces and religious buildings. The hospitality of Bagnacavallo is incomparable and, art, culture and eno-gastronomy are the great heritage of this land.                                                                  

The Church of San Pietro in Sylvis, one of the best preserved in the Romagna, is one of the most famous monuments,  which dates back to the seventh century and houses important frescos of Rimini school. Almost unique in its originality and elegance is, with no doubt, Piazza Nuova: Oval and arcaded, the square was built in 1758. It was designed as a place to sell meat, fish, olive oil. Recently restored, it houses a tavern and some typical artisan shops. Among the famous people of the city, as well as Tommaso Garzoni, Leo Longanesi, Stefano Pelloni, known as “The Passatore”, it should be remembered Bartolomeo Ramenghi, said “The Bagnacavallo”. The municipal art gallery preserves the altarpiece with the "Madonna with Child and Michael, Francis, Peter and John Saints" and "Mystic Marriage of St. Catherine", while in the presbytery of the Collegiate Church of San Michele Arcangelo is the altarpiece "Christ on the throne of clouds with the saints Michael the Archangel, John the Baptist, Bernardino and Peter the Apostle". Among the curiosities of the town, guests can visit the Botanical Garden “Giardino dei Semplici”, the Alley of love and the Cabinet of Prints at the Civic Museum of the Cappuccine. In Piazza della Libertà, next to the Town Hall, there is the Teatro Goldoni  repeatedly called "a Scala Theatre in miniature" for its beauty. From November to April, its billboard ranges from youth theater to the drama, contemporary and research theater, from the comic to author music, with important first plays and previews. 

At Villanova (7 km), the Eco-museum of Marsh Herbs recovers and preserves a traditional heritage of joints, weaves, textures, twisting and spinning; It contains over 2,000 exhibits that highlight the relationship between man and the valley.

 

Not to be missed:

Cycling routes to discover the territory. The wide and fertile plain is characterized by churches, oratories, manor houses, farmhouses, castles and palaces. Here, even the changing of the seasons is a show, with opulent spring blooms and the return of the birds, the warm summer shades, the smell of must in autumn, fog and white frost that in winter offer dreamlike atmospheres.

 

Main events:

In May, La Corte di Bacco, journey into the good life, delight the palates of gourmets culminating with the tavern night in the square. In summer there are the appointments In the moonlight, and in September  the feast of Marsh Herbs in Villanova and the ancient festival of San Michele in Bagnacavallo (since 1202).
