ACQUACHETA - CODE: TEDACQ

Come quel fiume c'ha proprio cammino

prima del Monte viso 'nver' levante,

da la sinistra costa d'Appennino,

che si chiama Acquacheta suso, avante

che si divalli giù nel basso letto,

e a Forlì di quel nome è vacante,

rimbomba là sovra San Benedetto

de l'Alpe per cadere ad una scesa

ove dovea per mille esser recetto;

così, giù d'una ripa discoscesa,

trovammo risonar quell'acqua tinta,

Surrounded by a forest of oak, chestnut, beech and evergreen, this spectacular waterfall where the jump reaches 70 meters in height, has won literary fame thanks to Dante Alighieri, who, during his exile, spent a long time in these areas.

The tumult of the falling water inspired the poet in describing the cascade of the infernal Flegetonte.

How to get there:

The trail to the waterfall from San Benedetto in Alpe near the bridge over the ditch Acqua Cheta. Along the river for long stretches, surrounded by lush vegetation of the National Park of Casentino Forests, Mount Falterona and Campigna, along a smooth path of about two hours.
