1st DAY – RAVENNA

Visit to the ancient Roman port of Classe, one of the most important ports of the Roman and Byzantine world with relevant traffic to Africa and the Middle East. Then visit to the Basilica of St. Apollinaris in Classe. Free lunch. In the afternoon visit to Tamo, the mosaics Museum, and  the Domus, one of the most important Italian archaeological sites discovered in recent years. Dinner and overnight.

 

2nd DAY – RAVENNA

Day dedicated to visit the Byzantine Ravenna: the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Basilica of San Vitale, the Basilica of St. Apollinaris Nuovo, the octagonal Neonian Baptistery, Mausoleum of Teodorico, the Palace of the Da Polenta, today Lovatelli Palace, and the home of Francesca, one of the oldest houses in the town where, it is believed, Francesca "said da Rimini" lived. Free lunch. Dinner and overnight.

 

3rd DAY – RAVENNA

Morning dedicated to Dantesque Ravenna. Dante's Tomb built in the late 1700s. Next to the tomb the Quadrarco of Braccioforte, at the center of which a little ridge commemorates the place where Dante's remains during the Second World War were preserved; the Franciscan cloisters, Dante Museum and the Basilica of St. Francis where his funeral was held. Free lunch. In the afternoon visit the Historical Classense Library with various volumes and manuscripts from the 10th to the 18th century. Dinner and overnight.

 

4th DAY – RAVENNA

Morning dedicated to visit the MAR, the Art Museum of the City of Ravenna. The museum is located in the

monumental complex of the Loggia Lombardesca, the sixteenth-century monastery of the nearby Abbey of Santa Maria in Porto. It houses three permanent collections: one ancient, with works from the 14th to the 19th century; one modern, with works from the 19th and the 21st century including a beautiful drawing of Gustav Klimt and one of contemporary mosaics with works from the middle of the '900 to date.
